The St Helens Beach coastal unit supports a diverse range of vegetation communities, a regionally-significant shorebird roost, and a range of rare and threatened species including highly specialised and regionally vulnerable mangrove mouse.
Offshore, St Helens Bay is listed as a Nationally Important Wetland and is zoned in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park as a Species Conservation (Dugong protection) Zone. St Helens Beach is also a popular recreational area for locals and visitors to our region, providing a range of outdoor recreational activity options.
Mackay Regional Council invites you to join us to ensure that St Helens Beach is protected and maintained into the future.
A draft Local Coastal Plan (LCP) has been developed to identify the natural values and issues at St Helens Beach and contains recommended management activities.
