Families gather to celebrate the opening of Alsatia Park

It was wonderful to see so many families making the most of the recently upgraded Alsatia Park in Walkerston on Sunday, November 16.

From the farming themed play equipment, football posts, ping pong table and upgraded skate park, there's something for all ages.

The day was also a chance to remember the life of Luke Payne, a young and passionate skater who championed a skate facility in Walkerston more than 20 years ago.

The facility is a lasting memorial to him, after he died in a crash in 2002. It was wonderful to have so many members of the Payne family at the event to remember Luke and see so many people enjoying the skate park he helped create.

Council has also received feedback from the community that they like and are enjoying the upgraded Alsatia Park, but they would like more shade over some of the pieces of play equipment.

Council has listened to the community’s concerns and additional shade will be constructed early in the new year.
