Disasters can have a profound impact on our mental health. The economic impact, the stress of dealing with the constant changes to our way of life, loss of social interaction and worry all take their toll.

Through our Stay Home, Stay Connected program, we are putting residents in touch with two experts in the field of disaster mental health. If you want tips for talking about COVID-19 with kids or techniques for dealing with stress and anxiety, or anything at all to do with mental health, we can help you out in the comfort of your home.

We will be putting together a video with answers and advice collated from some of your questions. We will post it here and on the council’s website. You will also be able to ask follow-up questions of our experts and find more comprehensive answers below.

To put a question to our experts, to help yourself or others, simply enter it in the message box below.

Meet Sue and Lina

Lina Nolan and Sue Buddery are mental health clinicians who work with Queensland Health and have volunteered their time to answer your questions. They are both currently working in the Disaster Mental Health Recovery Team, supporting individuals and communities following the bushfires of 2018, and prior to this, ex-TC Debbie. They work with people and groups of all ages with a focus on recovery, resilience building and community strengthening.
