Project update: November, 2017
Northern Beaches skate park in planning stages
The wheels are in motion for the development of a new skate park in the Northern Beaches.
The skate park is part of bigger project to create a new district level park in Blacks Beach by upgrading the existing Camilleri Street Park and adjoining Crown Reserve.
The plan is to build on the park’s existing infrastructure including its paths, playground and picnic area, and provide additional facilities like public toilets, BBQs and the new skate park.
Community consultation is now open regarding the upgrade of the existing recreational area and Crown Reserve on Camilleri Street.
Economic Development and Planning Committee chair Cr Amanda Camm said the Northern Beaches were a popular residential area for families but currently lacked the necessary recreational infrastructure.
“While there are playgrounds in the area that cater to younger children, teens often have to rely on their parents to transport them to activities and parks more suited to their age group,” she said.
“Providing a contemporary style local skate park in the new Camilleri Street District Park makes a lot of sense.
“The park is already ideally located. The new facilities and skate park will be within walking or riding distance of children and younger teens living in the Eimeo, Blacks Beach and Dolphin Heads areas.”
Council is currently seeking feedback from the community on what they want to see included as part of the park’s upgrade and how local skaters would like to see the new Northern Beaches Skate Park developed.
A community consultation session will be held at Blacks Beach Tavern on Tuesday, November 28.
