Consultation has concluded

Proposed major amendment 2 and PSP amendment 4 are on public consultation 

Mackay Regional Council is proposing changes to a broad range of planning scheme provisions, through proposed major amendment 2 (the proposed amendment), to ensure the region continues to prosper and the Mackay Region Planning Scheme 2017 remains effective and contemporary.

In addition, changes are proposed to the Planning Scheme Policy (PSP) – bushfire to align with proposed changes to the bushfire provisions in the planning scheme. The consultation period closed on Friday 21 May 2021 for both amendments.

What is proposed to change?

Proposed major amendment 2

The purpose and general effect of the proposed amendment is to improve the legibility and workability of provisions, correct errors, and to facilitate new development opportunities. Key elements of the proposed amendment include:

  1. Improve the planning scheme’s integration with State Planning Policy
  2. Improve the legibility and workability of assessment triggers, overall outcomes and development requirements to provide greater certainty
  3. Facilitate new development opportunities, like emerging industries, to ensure the region remains competitive
  4. Changes to the zoning of certain properties to reflect constructed development

Proposed PSP amendment 4

The proposed PSP amendment includes proposed changes to PSP – bushfire, which is related to proposed changes to the bushfire hazard overlay code under the proposed major amendment 2. The consultation period for PSP amendment 4 occurs at the same time as the proposed major amendment 2 consultation period.
