Project update: February 2, 2026

The efforts to revegetate a portion of the McEwens Beach foreshore at the southern end of McEwens Beach (adjacent to the swimming enclosure) have been successful thanks to the collaboration between the McEwens Beach Progress Association, Pioneer Catchment Landcare Group, council and the local community.

In June, two thousand ground cover plants and trees were planted to reinforce the existing native vegetation and help stabilise the foredune.

Pioneer Catchment Landcare Group oversaw the establishment of the planting for an additional 20 weeks by completing regular watering and maintenance.

Due to the natural environment and the introduction and reintroduction of new native plant species, some of the plantings were unable to be established during the maintenance period. An additional 700 plants from successful species will be planted in 2026 in areas where plantings were unable to survive.

This trial allowed the project team to evaluate which plantings will have the most success in this environment for future revegetation efforts.
