Shakespeare Street shoulder works

Area: East Mackay
Published: January 10, 2020

From Monday, January 13, Shakespeare Street will be undergoing shoulder widening works and a kerb and channel upgrade on the east-bound side of the road.

Works will take place on Shakespeare Street, from Moore Street to Goldsmith Street. When complete, this project will reduce the decline between the kerb and the road, improve public safety, and improve driveway access to homes in the immediate work area.

It is anticipated that construction will take 12 weeks to complete, weather permitting, and work will take place between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday work.

Traffic controls will be in place for the duration of works and we ask motorists to follow directions from traffic controllers to ensure the safety of all road users.

Through traffic will be maintained on Shakespeare street, however, the positioning of the lanes will be altered to allow for a safe exclusion zone between work crews and traffic. On-street parking will be restricted between Moore Street and Goldsmith Street for the duration of the works.

City bound traffic will be restricted from using the right-hand turning lane at the Shakespeare Street and Goldsmith Street intersection for approximately two weeks, however city bound traffic will still be permitted to make a right turn using the through lane.

Please also note that on Saturday, January 18, there is a scheduled closure of Shakespeare Street, from Byron Street to Goldsmith Street. All east-bound traffic will be detoured via Byron Street and Goldsmith Street for one day only. Property access will be made available at all times and managed by traffic control as needed.

The scheduling of these works is approximate and is subject to change, dependent upon weather conditions. Council will endeavour to keep you updated of any changes.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these works and apologise for any inconvenience. If you have any queries please contact Community Engagement on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).

This project is part of a larger program of works, which also includes shoulder works from Brisbane Street to Carlyle Street. The Brisbane Street to Carlyle Street works are scheduled to begin after the completion of the Moore to Goldsmith works.
