Gooseponds Park is receiving upgrades to improve connectivity and amenity for the park's users.

D&M Composites Pty Ltd will be completing the following works on council's behalf:

  • Replacing the existing footbridge along Malcomson Street, which is at the end of its useful life, with a new composite fibre pedestrian bridge and two entry boardwalks. The new bridge will be constructed one metre higher than the existing bridge to improve flood resilience.
  • Upgrading the existing footpath between Valley and Hicks streets to a new 2.5m wide concrete shared path.
  • Installing new park fencing, flood gate and park signage along Hicks Street to formalise the park’s boundary.
  • Planting 23 new trees along Hicks Street.

There will be some impacts to road users and pedestrians during these works, including:

  • While the new bridge is installed, a short detour off the concrete pathway to access the existing pedestrian bridge (which will remain open while the new bridge is installed) will be in place.
  • Closure of the footpath between Valley and Hicks streets. Pedestrians can detour via Glenpark and Meadow streets.
  • Short delays for traffic on Malcomson Street while the new pedestrian bridge is installed. Traffic control will be in place. Please follow the directions of traffic control and all on site signage.
  • Intermittent traffic control in place along Hicks Street. Please follow the directions of traffic control and all on site signage.
  • Minor noise and dust disturbances with various equipment on site.

Work will take place from mid-June to late-September, 2026, Monday to Friday (and Saturdays as required), between 6.30am and 6.30pm, weather permitting.

We appreciate your understanding and patience while these upgrades take place.

Should you have any questions, please call council’s Community Engagement team on 1300 MACKAY (622 529) or email engagement@mackay.qld.gov.au

This project is jointly funded by Mackay Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
