Why are we planning now?
The Master Plan will guide the renewal of the park’s supporting infrastructure over the coming 20-year period to cater to the recreational needs of the surrounding community and visitors to North Mackay.
What can I have input on?
We are seeking community input on elements that can be shaped through the Master Plan, including:
Community input will also help test ideas, identify priorities and influence the design direction of the Master Plan.
What is not included?
Some elements are outside the scope of community influence or will need to be considered as fixed constraints, including:
Will the site remain a park?
Yes, John Breen Park and Centenary Place is classified as a Reserve for Parks and Recreation. It will remain a park for community use.
Will water play features be considered?
No, water play elements are not able to be considered within the park.
The park is already adjacent to the Pioneer Swim Centre which has a dedicated toddlers pool with waterplay elements. As identified in the 2020 Aquatic Strategy, when this feature is scheduled for renewal, options to develop a more contemporary style water feature will be considered in the swim centre.
However, there are limitations with the existing treatment system and at present this limits any capacity for complimentary water type facilities being developed within the park.
