Langfords Park upgrade set to transform Eton’s favourite green space
Work is set to begin on the much-anticipated stage one upgrade of Langfords Park in Eton, with construction scheduled to start from August 4, 2025, weather permitting.
The project will be delivered by contractor Vassallo Constructions on behalf of Mackay Regional Council.
The contractor will be onsite Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 6.30pm and Saturdays, if required.
There will be some minor noise and dust disturbances associated with these works.
Langfords Park and its public toilets will remain open during construction, although some areas will be cordoned off as required.
The tennis court will be accessible except during pressure cleaning works, which are scheduled for August and will take about seven days to complete.
The project will involve the removal of seven overgrown shrubs and one tree, with 38 new trees to be planted as part of the landscaping works.
Works are expected to be completed by late-December 2025, weather permitting.
Thank you for your patience while these exciting upgrades are under way.
The Langfords Park Playground Renewal project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program in association with Mackay Regional Council.

Vassallo Constructions has been awarded the tender for stage one of the Langfords Park upgrade in Eton.
The works are based on feedback that was gathered during community consultation activities in 2023.
The stage one works include:
- A new playground relocated to the park’s oval with roofed shade and covered seating for parents and carers. The play equipment will cater for a wider age range, 0 to 12 years, and the area will be fully fenced.
- A new picnic shelter with an electric barbecue and picnic setting overlooking the park’s oval.
- A formalised entry from Hill Street with a 1.5-metre-wide concrete path to the picnic, sports facilities and playground facilities.
- Football goal posts in the oval.
- A retrofitted lockable gate to the internal road to prevent vehicles cutting through the park. Access will be allowed to the Pony Club and public on request.
- Additional shade trees along the new footpath.
The contractor is expected to commence works in the coming months and be completed this year, weather permitting.
Further information will be provided as soon as the construction program is finalised.

Council has completed its consultation activities for Langfords Park!
Council would like to thank everyone who participated in the consultation activities for the Langfords Park upgrade project.
The activities included a community engagement session in Langfords Park, an online survey on council's Connecting Mackay website and meetings with key stakeholders.
The feedback from these activities have been captured in a 'community engagement findings report' which can be found here. This report will help our designers develop a concept plan for the park.
The concept plan is expected to be completed by mid-2023.
Should you have any questions about this project, please contact council's Community Engagement team on 1300 MACKAY (622 529) or email engagement@mackay.qld.gov.au.
