Project update #1

Mackay Regional Council is excited to announce that we are developing a Place Strategy for the Mackay Waterfront including the City Centre and Riverside precincts.
About the project:
The Place Strategy project will help:
- Align efforts to activate the city across council and stakeholder groups.
- Map a strategy to progress short term actions, confident these actions are heading toward long-term objectives.
- Connect community members who want to make a difference in Mackay.
- Help people to develop their ideas into real-life activation events to test and trial in the Precincts.
- Make our Mackay Waterfront – City Centre and Riverside precincts more active and vibrant places for everyone.
The initial round of engagement for the Mackay Waterfront Place Strategy has been completed. The key objectives of Phase 1 engagement were to:
1. Inform the community about the project and how it links to existing council strategies such as the Mackay Waterfront Master Plan.
2. Gain community insights on the particular challenges and opportunities presented by the study area.
3. Progress the conversation around Mackay’s identity.
4. Start to build an engaged group of ‘do-ers’ in the community.
5. Create a sense of opportunity for local businesses, encouraging as many people as possible to get involved.
