Thank you to everyone who participated in the McEwens Beach Community Planting Day.

Two thousand ground cover plants and trees were planted at the southern end of McEwens Beach also known as "the knoll" to reinforce the existing native vegetation and help stabilise the foredune.

The Pioneer Catchment Landcare Group will oversee the establishment of the planting for the next 20 weeks by completing regular watering and maintenance.

The McEwens Beach Progress Association, in collaboration with council, have initiated the project to revegetate part of the foreshore area adjacent to the swimming enclosure at the southern end of McEwens Beach.

Join us for a Community Planting Day on Monday, June 9, 2025, between 9am and 1:30pm.

Pioneer Catchment Landcare Group will be providing their expertise to assist council’s Natural Environment staff with the planting and will oversee the establishment of the planting for an additional 20 weeks by completing regular watering and maintenance.

The area selected for revegetation is known locally as ‘the Knoll’ and is about 1500m2 in size. This project, initiated by the McEwens Beach Progress Association, will reinforce the existing native vegetation and help stabilise the foredune. The project also aims to improve access to the beach and swimming enclosure.

A community planning session was held on Tuesday, January 7, with residents and other stakeholders in attendance to finalise the extent of planting, review plant selections and zonation and provide feedback on other project components.

Additional consultation took place with the McEwens Beach Progress Association to finalise the project’s scope and preparations to revegetate the area are well underway. Construction of new fencing and relocation of the two picnic settings have been completed.

Now we need your help to plant the new vegetation!
