Pioneer River North Bank shared pathway

Mackay Regional Council has expanded the city’s footpath and bicycle network in North Mackay with the completion of Stage 1 and 2 of the Pioneer River North Bank shared pathway.

The new pathways are located to the south and north of Heaths Road, near the Bruce Highway and meet up with the Mackay Gooseponds Trail.

The project has provided over a kilometre of pathways and boardwalks that will be enjoyed by people riding bikes and walking in the area. The project supports council’s vision of improved connectivity throughout the region and will provide health and recreation opportunities for people riding bikes and walking in our community.

This initiative is supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

  • STAGE 4 STARTING SOON

    Contractor Pentacon will be soon begin constructing Stage 4 of the Pioneer River Northbank Shared Pathway.

    This stage is located along the Bruce Highway between Sams Road and Willets Road..

    Stage 4 will consist of close to 250m of boardwalk that will be enjoyed by cyclists and pedestrians in the area.

    Stage 1 between Ron Camm Bridge and the intersection at Heaths and Sams roads is now complete. Stage 2 along the Bruce Highway to the north of the shopping precinct is also complete. Stage 3 is in design phase and has not commenced.

    Stage 4 works are scheduled to begin in late April and be completed in late August 2024, weather permitting.

    Works will be undertaken between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am and 5pm, Saturday, when required.

    These works will be completed under traffic control, and we ask that all motorists follow all signage in place.

    There will be some minor noise and dust disturbances due to various plant and equipment on-site, however businesses and customers are not expected to be impacted.

    Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and we appreciate your patience during these essential works.
