Project update - July 16, 2026

Contractor Pentacon will be removing and replacing 11 trees and small shrubs in Shakespeare Street as part of the Pioneer River Training Wall Levee project.
The trees and shrubs are located behind the existing earth levee on Shakespeare Street, Mackay.
The contractor will be completing the works the week of July 20, weather permitting.
As a result of these works, there may be some minor noise and dust disturbances, however appropriate measures will be put in place to minimise any disturbance.
Council will be installing a landscape buffer as part of the project and planting mass trees in the area.
The contractor will be watering the trees regularly to assist with growth. The trees are expected to take approximately 12 months to reach a suitable height.
Should you have any questions about these works, please contact council’s Community Engagement Team on 1300 MACKAY (622 529) or email engagement@mackay.qld.gov.au.
This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program.
