The purpose of this project is to develop a revitalisation strategy for the Sarina town centre that draws on previous work undertaken and significant community involvement, to deliver a modernised masterplan for the centre. The strategy will aim to ensure that the Sarina town centre is maintained and strengthened as the major activity centre for southern areas of the region and is a distinctive, diverse, attractive and sustainable urban environment.

The strategy will be based on concept plans which are developed in collaboration with the community. The concepts preferred by the community will then be transformed into a masterplan which can be costed and staged for construction in the near future. A primary aim of the project is to have a shovel-ready project ready for delivery when funding from other levels of government becomes available.

The Sarina community can help create a vibrant, economically viable and pedestrian friendly centre and facilitate development. Some examples of how this was achieved at similar sized highway centres include Home Hill, Ayr, Childers, Gin Gin, Ingham and Cardwell.

Community participation includes a number of targeted workshops, design competition with the Sarina schools, feedback and commentary from this page, consultation events including the Sarina Markets, Sarina Show and Sarina Beach Coconut Festival. So, drop us a line, put your comments in "Street Talk" or come and visit our stand at the above events.

Your participation, feedback and ideas will help shape the Broad Street of the future

    Hi Fran

Our natural environment team looks after turtle nesting. Most of our beaches have coastal and beach management plans which include dealing with turtle nesting areas. You can find all the individual beach plans here: http://www.mackay.qld.gov.au/environment/natural_environment/coastal_management

Just pick the beach you are interested in.

Did you mean to include information about this in Broad Street to direct people to the beaches? We will certainly take that on board as a suggestion.

    Cheers, Sarina project team

    Hi Nakita,

Thanks for your question. Yes, job creation is certainly one of the targeted flow on effects for the project. A revitalised Broad Street aims to build confidence in the town and encourage new opportunities for investment and business.

    Cheers, Sarina project team
