Immediate tree removal

The gum tree in the central island of the Seagull Street car park has been removed today (Wednesday, May 18) due to the tree being declared dead and unsafe.

Council’s arborist inspected the tree following a resident’s complaint that it looked unhealthy.

The arborist found grubs in the tree and no evidence of structural or integral root damage.

An arborist has been onsite for the construction of the car park and works near the tree.

Council’s parks team will be replacing the tree with a more suitable species.

Should you have any questions about the tree removal, or the Seagull Street boat ramp project, please contact council's project manager Ben Crowley on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).

The Seagull Street boat ramp project is expected to be completed this month, weather permitting.

This project is being overseen by Mackay Regional Council and is funded with the assistance of a $1 million grant from Maritime Safety Queensland.
