Timber bridge restorations
Council is restoring, maintaining or replacing various timber bridges in rural areas across the region to ensure their ongoing safety and reliability.
Each bridge is vital for connecting local communities, supporting agricultural operations and maintaining essential transport links.
Which bridges are included?
- St Helens Creek Bridge (Calen Mt Charlton Rd)
- Figtree Bridge (Calen Mt Charlton Rd)
- Pig Creek Bridge (Calen Mt Charlton Rd)
- Omega Creek Bridge (Calen Mt Charlton Rd)
- Alligator Creek Bridge (Head Menkens Road)
When will the work commence?
Freyssinet, on behalf of council, has completed in-depth engineering inspections of the five bridges.
It has been found that the condition of multiple bridges in the package has gotten worse since the previous inspections. These bridges will have a reduced speed and load limit put in place for the safety of road users until rehabilitation works can be completed.
We are working on a construction program that takes into account the wet season, cane haulage, resident access, bus and transport routes, etc.
The community will be notified once construction details are confirmed.
What are the impacts?
There will be changes to traffic conditions, including reduced speed limits, detours and reduced load capacity on the bridges.
Please follow the directions of traffic control and on-site signage. Remember, changes to traffic conditions are for your safety and that of other road users.
Council values the patience and cooperation of the community while these essential works are carried out.
Regular updates will be provided to residents and the community as the project progresses. Stay updated by subscribing to its project update emails. Click the Stay Informed button on this page. You will receive an email afterwards asking you to confirm your subscription.
