Council, together with Mackay Isaac Tourism and Wayfound, is developing a Tourism Wayfinding and Signage Strategy to improve how visitors navigate and experience the region. This work will guide future signage planning and ensure a consistent, safe and welcoming visitor experience across the Mackay region.
Tourism signage plays a vital role in influencing whether travellers stop, explore or simply pass through a destination. A strong, consistent signage system means:
✔ Confident, relaxed visitors. ✔ More time spent in the region. ✔ Increased support for local businesses. ✔ Stronger regional identity.
The region’s signage varies in clarity and condition, and improvements are needed to align with Queensland and national tourism signage guidelines.
The strategy aims to:
Improve visitor awareness of attractions, experiences and services.
Ensure signage supports safe and enjoyable visitor journeys.
Provide a coordinated framework for future signage planning.
Strengthen recognition of the Mackay Isaac Region tourism brand.
