Published: July 5, 2017 - Consultation has concluded - Current Project

The purpose of this project is to develop a revitalisation strategy for the Sarina town centre that draws on previous work undertaken and significant community involvement, to deliver a modernised masterplan for the centre. The strategy will aim to ensure that the Sarina town centre is maintained and strengthened as the major activity centre for southern areas of the region and is a distinctive, diverse, attractive and sustainable urban environment.

The strategy will be based on concept plans which are developed in collaboration with the community. The concepts preferred by the community will then be transformed into a masterplan which can be costed and staged for construction in the near future. A primary aim of the project is to have a shovel-ready project ready for delivery when funding from other levels of government becomes available.

The Sarina community can help create a vibrant, economically viable and pedestrian friendly centre and facilitate development. Some examples of how this was achieved at similar sized highway centres include Home Hill, Ayr, Childers, Gin Gin, Ingham and Cardwell.

Community participation includes a number of targeted workshops, design competition with the Sarina schools, feedback and commentary from this page, consultation events including the Sarina Markets, Sarina Show and Sarina Beach Coconut Festival. So, drop us a line, put your comments in "Street Talk" or come and visit our stand at the above events.

Your participation, feedback and ideas will help shape the Broad Street of the future

I feel that a billboard with photo's of our beautiful beaches needs to be displayed in the main street encouraging people to come down and see what we have to offer, encourage whale watching etc.
I live in Campwin Beach and have seen whales at our lookout.
I have also visited Grasstree Beach and have seen dolphins swimming along shore whilst walking on the beach.
The beaches need a bit of attention eg: sarina beach lookout needs a tidy up and maybe some walking paths.

Fenced playground, food gardens and attractive landscaping, and tables and shade structures in Broad Street median strip. Broad & Central streets intersection probably needs a roundabout or traffic lights, Beach Road intersection needs a roundabout. Make sure Central Street is included in this project. I hope this project will only be embarked upon after Sarina Range access road is restored so we can get to town without the extra 45 mins travel time each way.

I would love to see an outdoor fitness area in the town and a descent walking/running/riding path. As someone who often goes on an outdoor walk, Sarina has nowhere to enjoy an uninterrupted walk (with no road or train crossings). Mackay has so many beautiful dedicated walking paths and Sarina doesn't have a single one! Please consider this in your plans.

What about a fenced playground in the median strip like Gin Gin? Always a good bet to get travelers to stop for a meal, play, and stretch their legs.
All the main footpaths in front of businesses should be paved (like Victoria St). Interesting landscaping in centre median with a variety of different spaces created by tiered landscaping connected by footpaths. Architecturally pleasing shade structures and tables (exposed timber).

I realise this is more for the Sarina town centre itself but we'd really love to see a walking/bike track to go from Sarina Beach to Campwin Beach via road. So many walkers/joggers/bikes go along Beach Road and into Campwin Beach via the main roads and back via either the beach or the road as it's a great loop to do. It is very dangerous however because of the single road and sloping grass beside it.

We need traffic lights or round about at the Broad St, Beach Rd intersection.
This would also slow down the trucks that don't seem to know what 50klms is each day.
Bike paths would also be good as most people use the footpaths for their bikes

Walking/cycling path whuch includes the banks of Plane Creek an asset not currently utilised or connected with our township incorporating a park and playground area for children

A safe playground in the city. Lots more shade trees for picnics. More proper parking in the main street. Safe walking paths through the city. Better traffic light management for the intersection of library and shops.

Fix range road first it's effecting business and community alike

Fix the road in front of the Police Station and Primary School is about all that it needs. It's a main highway full of trucks so you can't make it any sort of pedestrian precinct. And while they are at it they can fix the road at Jilalan lookout and the entrance to Armstrong Beach. Otherwise a decent walking path on the northern side of Plane Creek in the bushy area would be awesome. There are no designated walks in Sarina.

I would love to see some walking paths / running tracks included. We need the community to be healthy and active, walking or running is fantastic for fitness, health and general wellbeing etc but currently there is no where to run and very limited paths for running, pushing a prAm etc.

Why just Broad Street? What about the other street - Central Street? There are businesses there as well!

Council should pressure main roads to fast track Beach Rd intersection. There is major congestion here at many times through the day. This intersection could be a large roundabout incorporating a Sarina specific welcome with directions to Beach Rd complex, beaches and town centre. Heading south, Sarina really does start here
